Continuing on the theme of “it gets bloody busy in November and December” I thought I'd write a little bit about Priorities today! We can get along in life without prioritising - but it's exhausting!!! - and honestly probably not that effective or efficient. But prioritisation is a LEARNED skill - it isn't something we just “know”. I like to use a metaphor around prioritisation and the Time Management Matrix (TMM) by Stephen R Covey - and if you know me you know I love a good metaphor!! It's the Firefighter and the Arsonist. The TMM has 4 quadrants around how we use our time on certain tasks and looks like this: Most of us spend our normal time in Quadrant 1 - being a Firefighter 👩🚒 and a bloody good one. We get the job done, it's done well and we are proud of our work.
We often spend a bit of time in Quadrants 3 and 4 where we are dealing with distractions and often procrastinating - this is when we turn into an Arsonist!! 🔥🔥 Creating even more work for our Firefighter… But where we WANT to make sure we spend more time is in Quadrant 2 - being not just a Fire Fighter but the Fire Chief 👩💼 - calm, in charge, strategies in place to put out the small fires so we aren't dealing with big raging ones! Quite often I'll ask myself if the Fire Chief is really happy with my Arsonist activities 😜 (she NEVER is). If you'd like some help becoming the Fire Chief in your life (or business) be in touch using this link to book in a FREE Discovery Call - you might be surprised by what I have to offer you, and how fast you can make a change.
